On Marriage  关于婚姻         － Kahlil Gibran 

You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.

你们注定会在一起，并且相伴直到永远，

You shall be together when white wings of death scatter your days.

直到那白色的死亡羽翼将生命驱散。

Aye, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.

你们应该在一起，甚至在上帝沉默的记忆里。

But let there be spaces in your togetherness,

但请在你们的结合中间留一点空间，

And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

让那天堂和和风在之间起舞。

Love one another but make not a bond of love:

爱着对方，但不是黏附：

Let if rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.

始终在两个灵魂中间保留一片流动的海。

Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup.

为对方斟水，但不在一个杯中饮水。

Give one another of your bread but not from the same loaf.

给对方自己的面包，却不是同一块。

Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,

一起歌唱，一起起舞，一起快乐，但让对方得以单独存在：

Even as the strings of a lute are along, though they quiver with the same music.

就如同琵琶上的每一根弦，虽然在为同一首曲子振颤，但各自却都独立存在着。

Give your hearts, but not into each one’s keeping.

奉献出你们的心，但并不是给对方保管。

For only the hand of life can contain your hearts.

只有命运之手才能保管你们的心。

And stand together, yet not too near together:

站在一起，但不要太近：

For the pillars of the temple stand apart.

正如同那殿宇前分开站立着的柱子，

And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.

也好似那橡树和柏树，不在对方的阴影下成长。

A very modern and wersternized philosophy about marriage, although it was written by the author over 70 years ago. But ,it is still very helpful and practical for all of us in nowadays, especially for Chinese couples .
